Happenings out and about in my life... mostly culinarily related, hmmmmm.... |
It’s been a snowy, snowy winter here in New York. We missed the big storm over Christmas since we were in Iowa but we’ve been here for 2 or 3 more big storms. The last one was last week and dumped 19 inches. There is so much snow and slush everywhere. I love it! We played football yesterday and the field was full of snow. It was pretty fun and the team is now 3-0!
It’s cold out and Ryan and I are trying to go out to eat less and take lunches more often so I’m going to be cooking more. I’m on a big soup kick. It’s so nice to have around and can be healthy. Today I’m making chili with the fennel sausage from Espositos. I love that deli. They always call you honey or babe or darlin’ whether you are 25 or 85. I’ll post pics of the chili later.
I’m still loving our neighborhood. We are getting to know more and more people in the area and getting to know our favorite places. Nick at MiniBar, Margaret at the Laundry Mat, Santa at the Gym, our favorite places to get veggies, fruit, meat, milk. That’s the biggest difference in our lives from Chicago to BK. We never do a big shopping trip. Instead, its a series of short “shleps” to different places to get particular products. Oh! I almost forgot the Mozzarella at Caputos. The guys that work there are always crabby but you have to go for the mozz, pasta and ham.
Ryan’s sister was out a few weeks ago and his mom and step-dad, Gary, came out for a day to surprise her. Laurel took some great pics of the hood so I’ll post those too.
Stay warm!
